Study Skills are the skills you need to do well in school now and on the job later in your life.
Study Environment is the area where you read, write papers, study for test and work on other homework/assignments. No matter how hard it is, you need to study at home when your done at school. To make the best use of your time, find a place where it is relatively quiet. prepare your study table, check the light, etc.
Teachers often gives you time to work on your assignments at the end of the class. What do you do with this time? Remind your self that if you work now, you will have less to do later at home. Avoid procastination.
Reading is one of the most important skills you can develop. To improve your reading skills, first consider on what kind of reading you are doing. Magazines, comic book, science fiction book and or romance novel is a kind of recreational or pleasure reading. Reading textbook is very different. A textbook is written to appeal your ability to learn. In other words you need to pay attention on what you are reading. This is called Critical Reading.
SQ3R is a simple five step plan that can help you become a better reader. It stands for SURVEY-QUESTION-READ-RECITE-REVIEW.

- Survey means you begin textbook reading by getting your mind ready for what you are going to read.
- Question is asking your self on what you are reading.
- Read is reading it as quickly as you can, but be sure that you can understand what you are reading.
- Recite, after have read the page, stop and then recite it. Try to put ideas in your own words.
- Review, yo do a final review. A self- exam. What did I learn?
